This page explains exactly what is stored on your device when you use Pixveil, who stores it, and how to switch any of it off. It is written to be read rather than skimmed past, so it is shorter and plainer than most policies of this kind.

The short version. Pixveil sets almost nothing of its own — one stored value to remember whether you prefer light or dark mode. There is no analytics on this site at all. The cookies that do get set come from Google's advertising, which pays for the site, and you can turn personalisation off at any time using the links below.

What cookies actually are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store, so that something can be remembered between page loads or between visits. Related technologies — local storage and session storage — do much the same job using a different mechanism.

Cookies are not programs. They cannot read your hard drive, install anything, or run code. What they can do is let a site, or a third party embedded in that site, recognize a browser it has seen before. That is useful for remembering a preference, and it is also the mechanism behind advertising that follows you between websites.

What Pixveil stores on your device

The honest answer is: very little of our own.

WhatTypeWhyHow long
pixveil-themeLocal storageRemembers whether you chose light or dark modeUntil you clear your browser data
Google advertising cookiesThird-party cookiesServing and measuring ads (see below)Set by Google; varies
Consent choice (EEA/UK/CH)Local storageRemembers the advertising choice you made, so you are not asked repeatedlyUntil you clear it or change your choice

We do not run analytics. There is no Google Analytics tag, no Facebook pixel, no heatmap script and no session recorder on this site. We genuinely do not know which tools individual visitors use.

The theme preference is stored using local storage rather than a cookie, which means it never leaves your browser — it is not transmitted to us with any request. If your browser blocks storage entirely, the site still works; it simply forgets your theme choice between visits.

Your files are not part of any of this

This is worth stating separately, because it is the part people most often assume works the other way round.

Every tool on Pixveil runs inside your browser. When you open an image in the compressor, the resizer or any other tool, that file is read from your disk into your browser's memory, processed there, and written back out as a download. It is never uploaded to us, never stored, and never passes through any advertising system.

No cookie can change that, because there is no server-side copy for a cookie to be associated with.

Advertising cookies

Pixveil is free and is funded by advertising. We display ads through Google AdSense, which means Google and its advertising partners may set cookies on your device.

Google's required disclosures apply here and we state them plainly:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising at any time through Google Ads Settings.

You can also opt out of many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices, or, if you are in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out does not remove advertising — it means the ads you see are no longer personalised.

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be shown a consent message before any personalised advertising cookie is set. It is delivered through a consent management platform certified by Google and integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework.

That message offers three choices at the same level: consent, do not consent, or manage your options individually. We chose the three-option version deliberately. Regulators — the French authority CNIL among them — have been explicit that refusing should be as easy as accepting, and a message with no visible refuse button does not meet that standard.

Your choice is stored on your own device. You can change it at any time by clearing your site data for pixveil.app, after which the message will appear again on your next visit.

How to control cookies yourself

Whatever any website tells you, your browser has the final say. Every major browser lets you block third-party cookies entirely, clear existing ones, or refuse all of them.

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Prevent cross-site tracking
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Blocking all cookies will not break Pixveil's tools, because they do not depend on cookies to function. The practical effects are that your theme preference is forgotten between visits and that the ads you see become non-personalised.

Changes to this policy

If we add or remove a service that sets cookies, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. We do not keep a separate archive of previous versions, so the page you are reading is always the current one.
