About the JPG to PNG tool
Turn any JPG or JPEG photo into a lossless PNG file. PNG keeps every pixel intact and supports transparency, making it perfect for graphics, logos, and screenshots you plan to edit again.

What this does and does not achieve
PNG is lossless, so the conversion will not lose any further detail. What it cannot do is restore detail — every artefact already baked into the JPG is copied faithfully into the PNG.
The usual legitimate reasons are a workflow that demands PNG, a need to edit without accumulating further loss, or preparing an image for a transparency edit.
What the numbers look like
Expect the PNG to be considerably larger. In our measurement the same 1600×900 image was 51 KB as JPG quality 80 and 219 KB as PNG — more than four times the size for identical visible content.
That growth is not a fault. Lossless compression simply cannot discard the information JPG threw away.
Common mistakes
- Expecting the conversion to improve image quality. It cannot.
- Using PNG for photographs on a website, which inflates page weight for no visual gain.
- Assuming the PNG gains transparency. It has an alpha channel, but every pixel in it is fully opaque until you edit it.
Questions people ask
Will this improve a blurry JPG?
No. Losses from the original JPG compression are permanent, and PNG simply preserves them exactly.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
Because lossless compression must record every pixel exactly, while JPG discards detail the eye is unlikely to notice.
When is this genuinely useful?
When you need to edit repeatedly without compounding compression damage, or when a system requires PNG.
